A little help before the story begins

About FableFolk

What is FableFolk?

FableFolk is a parent-led storytelling companion that helps parents create personalised bedtime stories for children aged 3–8. It provides a ready-made story world and simple prompts; you bring the story to life in your own voice.

Is FableFolk an AI story generator?

No. FableFolk does not replace the parent or tell a finished story to the child. It generates a story arc that takes away the pressure of inventing everything from scratch, while keeping you at the heart of the experience.

Who is FableFolk for?

FableFolk is designed for parents, carers and grown-ups of children aged 3 to 8, especially on evenings when imagination feels harder to reach. You do not need any storytelling experience.

Do I need to be good at storytelling?

Not at all. FableFolk gives you enough structure to begin, with plenty of space for your own words, voices and ideas. There is no perfect way to tell a FableFolk story, and that's often the beauty. If you get stuck, ask your small person what they think and see where it takes you.

How FableFolk works

How does FableFolk work?

Choose between Polly’s Enchanted Forest and The Lighthouse at Gull Rock. Add a few details about your child, receive a simple story arc and audio briefing to prep you to tell the story, then put the screen aside and tell the adventure in your own words.

Do I have to invent the whole story?

No. FableFolk gives you the world, starting point and helpful story beats. We take away the planning load, so you choose the world and add your family's personality. There are no right or wrong answers, just see where the story goes.

How long does a FableFolk story take?

Most FableFolk stories are designed to take around three to five minutes. You can make the adventure shorter or longer to suit your child and your bedtime routine.

Can I change the story while I tell it?

Absolutely, and we actually think this works best. The story arc is a starting point, not a script. Follow your child's ideas, change the plot, add silly voices or bring back a favourite family joke.

How do I get started?

Choose a world, add a few details your child loves and open your first prompt. Your first adventure can begin tonight.

Children and their stories

What ages is FableFolk suitable for?

FableFolk is designed for children aged 3–8. Parents can simplify the story for younger children or add more details and choices for older children.

Are FableFolk stories personalised?

Yes. You can add simple details such as your child's name, age or something they would like to appear in the adventure. The resulting story is shaped by your child but remains yours to tell.

Can we return to the same story world?

Yes. Returning to a familiar world allows favourite characters, family jokes and shared memories to grow from one bedtime to the next. The app will remember who you've met and even what you called them in each story, if you give it feedback.

Can I use FableFolk outside bedtime?

Yes. Although it is designed with bedtime in mind, FableFolk can also be used during quiet time, on journeys, on rainy afternoons or whenever your family wants a short shared adventure. Imagination works anywhere.

Screens and technology

Is FableFolk screen-free?

FableFolk uses a screen briefly to help the parent prepare. Once you have your story arc, put the device aside and tell the story together. The storytelling experience itself is screen-free.

Does FableFolk read the story aloud?

No. FableFolk is built around the parent's voice. They are stories only you can tell. The app provides the spark; the magic comes from you.

Does my child need to use the app?

No. FableFolk is designed for a parent or carer to guide. Your child can shape the adventure through their choices and ideas without needing to use the screen.
